Biographical Info

Dr. Kurtzman sees patients ages 0-21

Dr. Kurtzman grew up in Phoenix, Arizona and moved to Tucson in 1988 to attended college at the University of Arizona. She received her B.A. and M.D. degrees from the University of Arizona and completed her pediatric residency training at the University of Virginia. Dr. Kurtzman worked in academic medicine for seven years before joining El Rio Community Health Center in 2010 where she works as a general pediatrician at the Northwest Clinic.

For many years, Dr. Kurtzman has pursued professional interests in medical genetics and genetic syndromes, congenital heart disease, and children with complex medical conditions and special needs. One of her greatest professional interests is medical care of transgender, gender-creative, and gender non-binary children and adolescents. Dr. Kurtzman and her dear friend and colleague,. In their clinics at El Rio, they provide comprehensive medical care for transgender youth. They are also working closely with other physicians and community members in southern Arizona to increase acceptance of and resources for LGBTQ youth and their families.

Personally, Dr. Kurtzman is a cis-woman, happily married to her husband of more than twenty years. They have a son about to start college and a daughter in middle school. In her free time, she enjoys reading, bicycling, and cooking. She is also a very active member of Odyssey Storytelling and can occasionally be seen on stage telling any number of tales to any audience that will listen to her. Dr. Kurtzman is especially proud of the fact that she can say “thank you” in twenty-one languages.
